We love Izzy’s. From the sandwiches to the potato pancakes to the truly amazing and addicting pickles. We devour a bowl of those pickles at every visit and I keep a jar in the fridge for spontaneous snacking and sandwich emergencies. I’m pretty focused when we head to Izzy’s for dinner and have a preset selection of items I gravitate towards. Not to say that I don’t sometimes stray and try other items, but you know how it is…once you find that perfect sandwich (or 4) you tend to go for the gold and not mess around.
And then Izzy’s homemade soups came into my life. It’s been so dang cold and gray and wintery that I’ve been obsessing over soups lately, even buying canned soups to take to work with me. There’s really nothing like a delicious bowl of hot, steaming soup when you are chilled to the bone. Now that I’ve had Izzy’s soups, though…well, I’m not sure that canned stuff will ever be the same.
Izzy’s has a great selection of homemade soups that are available all day, every day, and one extra special soup that they carry on Friday only.
- Chicken Noodle – All white meat diced chicken breast and fresh vegetable in a deliciously seasoned chicken broth with bow tie noodles.
- Broccoli Cheddar – Chopped broccoli, shredded carrots and a blend of seasonings served in a creamy cheese sauce.
- Beef Barley – Plump pearl barley, fresh vegetable and chunks of beef cubes, simmered in a seasoned beef broth.
- Sweet-n-Sour Cabbage – Chopped cabbage and chunks of lean beef cubes simmered with select seasonings in beef broth.
- Matzoball Soup — Served on Friday only and worth the special trip. Delicious broth, tender veggies, bowtie pasta and a delicious matzoball right in the center waiting for you to dig in and enjoy!
The Matzoball Soup — it is going to haunt me until next Friday. I mean seriously — look at this:
Perfect comfort food any time of day. All soups are served with a slice of bread and crackers but I dove straight into that soup and never looked back. Really you can’t go wrong with any of these soups and I’d be hard pressed to pick a favorite because the Broccoli Cheddar is absolutely delicious as well and the Sweet-n-Sour Cabbage soup is at the top of my list too.
It wasn’t all about the soup this visit, we all ordered some of our favorite sandwiches too: Boneless Fried Cod on rye bread with tartar sauce, Turkey Reuben, Joe Walter, and kids Grilled Cheese. And potato pancakes, of course. And Oh….don’t forget the pickles!
And then there was dessert. Cinnamon rolls were consumed as well, but I knew better than to try to get a picture and come between the boys and their pastries…I like my limbs intact, thanks. But oh the Carrot Cake…Mmmm.
Let’s just say, we had a delicious family dinner (and I didn’t have to do dishes – score!) My only regret is that I didn’t order a second bowl of Matzoball Soup to bring home for lunch the next day. It was amazing.
